Cookies

How The Moment Before uses essential cookies, browser storage, payments, member sign-in and Guestbook anti-spam protection.

Last updated: September 2026

The Moment Before uses a small number of cookies and similar browser technologies to make parts of the site work.

I do not use advertising cookies or third-party advertising trackers.

This page explains the main categories of cookies or similar technologies that may be used when you visit the site.

Essential and functional cookies

Some cookies or browser storage are necessary for features you choose to use.

These may include functions such as:

  • signing in to your member account
  • keeping you signed in
  • managing your Ghost member Portal
  • remembering account or newsletter preferences
  • processing an optional support payment
  • protecting the Guestbook from automated abuse

Blocking these may prevent some parts of the site from working correctly.

Ghost

The Moment Before runs on Ghost.

Ghost may use cookies or similar browser storage for functions such as:

  • member sign-in
  • account sessions
  • Ghost Portal
  • membership and newsletter preferences

These are used to provide features you have chosen to use rather than for advertising.

Ghost also provides the site's built-in visitor and publication analytics.

The Moment Before does not add separate advertising pixels or third-party advertising trackers through the theme.

Stripe

If you choose to support The Moment Before with a one-off contribution, Ghost opens a payment process handled by Stripe.

Stripe may use cookies or similar technologies during checkout for purposes such as:

  • processing the payment
  • fraud prevention
  • security
  • maintaining the checkout session

Stripe handles these technologies as part of its own payment service.

No Stripe checkout cookies are needed simply to read articles on The Moment Before.

Cloudflare Turnstile

The Guestbook uses Cloudflare Turnstile to help distinguish genuine visitors from automated spam or abuse.

When you use the Guestbook, your browser communicates with Cloudflare as part of this security check.

Cloudflare may process browser, device or network signals needed to provide that anti-abuse service.

The Moment Before receives only the resulting verification token used to check the Guestbook submission.

Guestbook processing

The Guestbook submission endpoint itself is operated through Vercel.

The verified Guestbook application does not:

  • set its own cookies
  • use authentication cookies
  • use local storage
  • use session storage

Guestbook submissions are processed without sending your Ghost member cookies to the Vercel submission endpoint.

Baserow and Resend

Baserow is used to store and moderate Guestbook submissions.

Resend is used to send an internal moderation notification when a Guestbook note needs review.

Neither service is embedded on the public site as an advertising or behavioural-tracking tool.

Analytics

Ghost provides built-in analytics that help me understand things such as:

  • how many people visit the site
  • which articles are being read
  • where visits generally come from
  • membership and newsletter activity

I use this information to understand and maintain The Moment Before.

I do not use the site to create advertising profiles about readers.

The precise technical operation of Ghost's own analytics may change as Ghost updates its platform, so this page describes the function rather than claiming that every analytics event necessarily depends on a browser cookie.

Managing cookies

You can control or delete cookies using your browser settings.

You can also block cookies entirely, although doing so may stop features such as member sign-in, Ghost Portal or Stripe checkout from working properly.

The Guestbook may also fail if browser or anti-abuse technologies needed by Cloudflare Turnstile are blocked.

Changes to this page

I may update this page if the services or technologies used by The Moment Before change.

The date at the top of the page will show when it was last updated.
